- s1 crew so often operates as chorus just praising blackbeard (1.04; 1.06 "Blackbeard doesn't feel fear; 1.08 a whole bunch of stuff with calico jack). s2 they largely do not (right...? they are more delineated characters. roach 1.04 "yes sir blackbeard sir!" vs 2.05 uh huh, you didn't kill buttons. "oh, still sticking with that one, okay.")
- Frenchie halfway between Stede and "real" piracy as a chorus member. opens season with "we all die doing this" and absolutely gives the Wrong answer "you bottle it up" vs wee John who knows right away, we so it the Stede way
- ... n'aw, and that's definitely a [reflection. brain can't pull the word][foil!] we could've explored more :>

- s2 idea: successive little moments of Stede seeing little accessories and costume pieces that he thinks make him look more piratical, culminating in cursed red suit shirt. then earring
- "we're approaching the vessel captain" being Izzy's first s2 line is the same as buttons first s1 line
- Ricky is just a thin character overall. it's not something con O'Neill could do anything with, you know? there's a simplicity to "I'm going to break Blackbeard up with his boyfriend" that isn't there in "maybe I love Stede? maybe I'm try to rob Jackie (pretending to like Stede for this or not). piracy is fun! ...I want to destroy piracy, they wronged me."
- Fang's black makeup is harlequin tears,.dramatic over his eyes and stripes.all the way down, crying through his beard
- interesting thinking about edizzy murder-suicide scene is actually very weird, taking into account that they're both dizzy and nauseous (withdrawing, in crazy pain; both in physical and emotional pain; just out of their minds with mind-alterinf sensation). idk. thinking about that, since I was in withdrawal last week, and completely fucked in the head and barely able to carry out a real conversation two days ago 11/3 when I was lying as still as possible trying not to vomit.
- Hornigold flashback: "im not a good person Stede. that's why I don't have any friends" -- is that why he thought he had to become a pirate ?? ...is that why he's anxious about retiring? is that what he's thinking about, deciding whether he's worthy of retiring (leaving piracy) or not?
needs Stede to validate that he's allowed to be alive, have a friend; this means he can retire. this seems like something that you shouldn't actually narratively solve with an otp, like it would be the opposite of development of that's what solved Ed's problem.
- Izzy *pathologically* covering up for Ed, exciting his behavior -- 2.03 trying to keep the idea from stede that ed would destroy his ship, then that ed was insane and tortured everyone, sure. but 2.05 "served me right, dangling my legs overboard"???
- 2.06: rickys plot is in the middle of the episode?! badmintons / Izzy+Jackie only ever got the episode tags/at the end
in fact the episodes just a mess. 0 ned, 1 ed and Izzy, 2 guilt room, 3 Ricky and English, 4 shopping, 5 Zheng and Ricky, and then finally a run of [ 6 John and Izzy, 7 on deck, vie on rose english...]
- vie en rose French, without the picture, makes me cry. the sharp cut, from whatever comes before to That. we are doing That now. Izzy says
- speaking of sfx: Ed throwing Blackbeard leathers in ocean is cannon shot
- 2.07 moves too fast: everyone talks about their feelings, aka their motivations. "how'd it feel' says Izzy. (??) we're moving too fast, says ed, and that whole conversation happens. FOR THE RECORD I THINK YOURE GOOD FOR HIM

them meeting in the middle in Stede's cabin "muse why have you abandoned me" while Izzy does Curtain

did we just say three things about him becoming a pirate? previously we kind of assumed it was because he had no options but based on "I'm a bad person I have no friends" it could be:
1. [them] becoming Blackbeard would conveniently spare him from having to learn to make real friends. all the attention without any of the vulnerability 😌
2. [me] for the first time the thought occurred to me that maybe in the wild world of ofmd piracy he *chose* it *because* he felt he was a bad person
or #3
3. [them] or even if he just ended up in piracy he felt it was because he was already bad
