Man, karate fixes everything. What's not to like about a vigorous workout with patient and solicitous teachers? Why haven't I been doing this for years? The Weasley Twin senseis spent much of last night admiring my footwork from the sidelines and ventured to ask me halfway through which martial art I'd taken before to have such strong footwork on my second day. No, not tae kwon do, I assured them; no, ballet doesn't count, they assured me. Also how did I know the numbers so well? A year of Japanese, of course. Which I'm thinking I may start studying again, because hey, integrated learning ftw.
Doctor Who 312 and 313 still compelling on third or so rewatch. The score! ("The drums, Doctor! Can't you hear them?") David Tennant's facial contortions! Megalomaniacal arch-nemeses!
This is all
seize 's fault. However! I might point out that she is the one writing epic fanfiction in the Whoniverse and not I, so... take that, fangirlism.
I've never been involved in fandom, per se; never written any fic, never joined any communities or became close friends with other fangirls; but boy do I have a vested emotional interest from six years of watching it, and the shitstorm that is Strikethrough 07 has made me a little worried about fandom's future on LJ. LJ fandom was one of my best friends in high school, yo. The news that founder Brad Fitzpatrick is leaving livejournal doesn't bode well at all.
Finished House of the Spirits, which turned into a story about cycles of injustice in the last act and reminded me of the movie Pan's Labyrinth in its painful portrayal of civil war. I cried a lot watching that movie. I'm pretty sure the only reason I didn't cry as much reading Spirits is because of its less all-encompassing medium.
It might be time to consume a lot of Spanish and Latin American fiction. The storytelling is different in ways I can't quite articulate, but it's delicious. Need mooore. Probably a more respectable use of my free time than watching thirty years of Who reruns, too. :D
